- Heather Owen

Hello. I am the Data Librarian for the River Campus Libraries, and I am a member of the Data Management and Sharing Service Team. I can help you with the following:

  • Questions related to data management and sharing plans (DMSPs).
  • Provide feedback and review DMSPs.
  • Answer questions on funder or journal data policies.
  • Advise on data, image, code, and file management, organization, and documentation.
  • Help you discover and prepare your data for the right data repository.
  • Support you in depositing data into the UR Research Repository (URRR).
  • Assist you in using University tools like LabArchives, the DMPToolProtocols.io, and ICPSR.
  • Answer data literacy questions - such as finding data, data misinformation, data ethics, and managing/using data

I am available for 1-on-1 consultations, but I can also give training or instruction to research groups, labs, departments, and classes. When you make the appointment, please explain the question you have. This information will help me prepare for our meeting, so I can fully support you. If helpful, you can also submit documents and/or datasets that I can look over before our meeting.

Currently I am available for zoom appointments M~F, and you will be emailed a zoom link after you create the consultation. I am also available for in-person consultations on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. You can find me in Carlson 313, which is on the third floor of Carlson Science & Engineering Library. From the elevator, walk straight for around 30 seconds, and the office will be on the right. Knock on the door when you arrive so we know you are there. If none of the times work for you, or you have other questions, please feel free to email me at howen@library.rochester.edu
