Data Bloom: Building Web Maps from Google Sheets Online

Want to turn a simple spreadsheet into an interactive online map? Join the URochester Libraries for a hands-on workshop on creating web maps with Leaflet, a free and open-source JavaScript mapping library. Participants will learn how to take location data stored in a Google Sheet or other hosted CSV file and display it on an interactive map that can be shared on the web. Along the way, we'll explore how to add map markers, organize data into layers, customize symbols, and create popups that display information from your spreadsheet.

No previous web mapping or programming experience is required. The workshop will introduce the basics of HTML and JavaScript needed to work with Leaflet, but the focus will be on adapting and customizing existing code rather than learning to program from scratch. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a working interactive map and a foundation for creating their own spreadsheet-driven mapping projects. All are welcome and questions are encouraged.

This workshop is taught by Digital Scholarship and is part of the Data Bloom Workshop Series, run by the Data Services Team. Please visit our webpage to learn about our other offerings.
