Love Data: Visualizing Data in Special Collections In-Person
Do you wonder how data can be created and visualized from historical primary source materials? Do you want to learn more about incarcerated individuals in the Rochester region in the early 1900s? Join this collaborative event hosted by UR Libraries’ Data Services Team and Rare Books, Special Collections, and Preservation (RBSCP) to learn how to transcribe historical documents, create a clean dataset, and visualize it using Tableau (a non-coding visualization software). This hands-on workshop will include interacting with physical inmate identification cards, which are part of the River Campus Libraries’ Special Collections.
This workshop is part of Love Data Month, run by the Data Services Team. Please visit our webpage to learn about our other offerings. This particular workshop will be hosted in the Plutzik Library, which is located in RBSCP in Rush Rhees Library. To locate this room, take the Silver Elevator located in Lam Square to the 2nd floor and head down the hallway to Rare Books, Special Collections, and Preservation.
Before you attend the workshop you should download Tableau Public onto your computer (no prior knowledge of Tableau is needed). Please contact us if you have any questions.
