Do you like dancing and singing to fun music, light sabers, and virtual reality? We have the perfect competition for you! Compete against your peers, and if you dominate, you will be crowned as the Beat Saber champion. This is your chance to be remembered for your rhythmic dance moves, striking vocals, and Beat Saber skills AND win big: Beats Solo³ Wireless headphones

But what’s Beat Saber, you say? Only the most popular VR game of all time! Beat Saber is a VR rhythm game in which you slash floating boxes as they fly toward you to the beat of the music with gigantic light sabers. 

The Rules

• Participants must be affiliated with the University of Rochester. Students, faculty, or staff are welcome to participate.
• Participants must show a UR ID with the name under which they registered.
• Participants must complete all three rounds and final battle to be eligible for prizes.
• There will be three competition categories (1. Highest score 2. Best dance moves 3. Best acapella singing). Once a participant advances beyond Round 1 in a specific category, they must stay in that category for the duration of the competition.
• For Round 1, participants may aim for the highest score, dance, and/or sing to see which category they may advance to in Round 2. 
• Participants must complete each round in Studio X. 
• Scores must be verified and recorded by a Studio X staff member.
• Studio X staff members will score dancing and singing based on rubrics. We must record participants for the best dancing and acapella signing categories for scoring purposes. Recordings will not be shared publicly.
• Participants for highest score will get three attempts for each of the three rounds but not for the final battle.
• Participants for best singing and dancing will get one attempt for each round and the final battle. 
• Participants are not allowed to use score multipliers.
• Participants must use two sabers in most cases. 
• The songs will be chosen by Studio X staff. We share the songs for the first three rounds (below). The final showdown song is a surprise for highest score and dancing.
• We will let signing final round participants know the song in advance. This will be a different song from the other categories. 
• Once you have your score, you will be added to our scoreboard.
• At the end of each round, a selection of the lowest scoring participants will be eliminated. This depends on how many participants we have.
• In order to win the final prize, participants must participate in the final showdown.
• Previous winners are ineligible for the prize. 

The Structure

There will be three winners of this competition, one for each category: highest score, best dance moves, and best singing. 

Contestants do not have to choose which category they would like to compete in for the first round. For instance, a person may strive for the highest score but also sing to increase their chances of moving onto the next round in either the score or singing category. 

There will be three rounds in which the top contestants will be invited to advance to the next round. Then, the top three competitors in each category will battle in the final showdown with a live audience in Studio X. 

Winners will be rewarded for slaying the beat with a pair of Beats Solo³ Wireless headphones!

Round 1 BTS Dynamite: Participants must complete this round by 3/1.

Round 2 Lady Gaga Bad Romance: Participants must complete this round by 3/8.

Spring Break! 3/9-3/18

Round 3 The Weeknd Blinding Lights: Participants must complete this round by 3/20.

Final Showdown SURPRISE: Three finalists from each bracket will participate in the final competition event on Friday, 3/22 @1pm.
