Love Data: Mapping the Past with QGIS In-Person / Online
Discover the power of open-source QGIS in this 75 minutes workshop focused on georeferencing historical maps. Learn how to align historical maps with modern geographic data to unlock spatial insights from the past. The session will also introduce basic data creation techniques, empowering you to overlay, analyze, and interpret historical and current datasets. Perfect for beginners and anyone interested in exploring history through the lens of GIS!
This workshop is offered in a hybrid format; however, in-person attendance is highly recommended as the classroom computers are pre-equipped with all the necessary software. For online participants, please ensure you install the free, open-source software QGIS on your computer prior to the workshop. You can download it here: https://www.qgis.org/download/. Be sure to select the "Long Term Release" version rather than the latest release. If you have any questions or encounter issues with the software installation, feel free to contact Blair Tinker at blair.tinker@rochester.edu.
This workshop is part of Love Data Month, run by the Data Services Team. Please visit our webpage to learn about our other offerings.
