LDC: Design Principles and Intro to Canva In-Person

If you create promotional material, then this session is for you! Please join the LDC for a presentation and mini workshop on design principles and hands-on introduction to Canva.

The first half of this session will focus on design principles and will be facilitated by Pauline Wegman who graduated from Nazareth College with a Studio Art degree in 2012. She first started her career as a Graphic Designer at a small startup company in Rochester. From there, she moved to CGI Communications where she worked as a Graphic & Web Designer, but was promoted to lead and manage the Digital Media & Creative Design team for close to four years. In September of 2019, she started a new career as a Digital Designer/Developer at The Martin Group. Pauline also creates and sells art and design work through her personal business, Key and Sea Creative.

The second half will allow you to apply those principles, get some basic familiarity with Canva, and start your own creative journey. This portion will be facilitated by our very own Moriana Garcia who in her work as an Outreach Librarian, who has become an avid user of Canva. Canva is an easy-to-use freemium graphic design platform with drag-and-drop features and professional layouts that you can use to design beautiful presentations, posters or social media graphics. It has thousands of free images (photos, vectors and illustrations) and a great selection of fonts, icons and shapes to choose from, but it also allows you to upload your own content. The platform offers great documentation and tutorials perfect for self-learning.
