Building Open Assignments with Wikipedia Online
Wikipedia assignments can empower students to think beyond the classroom as they actively contribute to the global body of knowledge on a topic.
Join Lara Nicosia, humanities librarian for the River Campus Libraries, Rebekah Walker, digital humanities and social sciences librarian for RIT Libraries, and Joe Easterly, digital scholarship librarian for the River Campus Libraries, for a discussion on the potential impact of building Wikipedia assignments into your courses.
Drawing from experience working with classes on assignments and helping lead RIT's annual Women on Wikipedia edit-a-thon, Nicosia and Walker will share the benefits of offering Wikipedia class assignments, explore different types of Wikipedia activities, introduce helpful tools and resources to support faculty and students, and discuss the benefits of contributing to the world's largest open resource.
This workshop will include perspectives from librarians, faculty, and students and will prepare you to start building your own open assignments with Wikipedia.
